Ferry Plus is a wholly browser based application which has many advantages as the standard user interface. It provides an application that is intuitively and instinctively easy to use which ensures that users experience familiar, predictable and constant navigation using either, keyboard, mouse or a combination of both which enhances ease of use and naturally assists in increasing efficiency.
The standard browser and intuitive functionality also give real savings against on-going training costs ensuring new and unfamiliar users are quickly confident and operational. ferry+ has integrated hover text help. Help is displayed in a bubble with the ability to add hyperlinks to Word documents or pdfs for more detailed information.
The Intranet interface is tailored for use with Internet Explorer 8+. For internet users we support down to IE6 if required although user are warned that the interface is tailored for the current release of IE. A browser interface allows easy training and familiar, predictable navigation.
Additionally, for web users, we support Firefox, Chrome and Safari, ferry+ also incorporates an integral tooltip based help application allowing detailed help to be setup by the users. The help application can also include links to further documents) such as MS Word and pdfs as well as linking to graphics and web sites.
CSS is used to control presentation of pages to the user and this enables, for example, utilisation of common application code whilst still incorporating different presentation layers and styles for different types of user. There are currently four presentation layers:
- Call Centre
- Internet users
- Point of sale/departure users
- Passenger self service kiosks
